Overview

Two Dutch consumer organisations have launched a legal claim against Booking.com, accusing the platform of inflating hotel prices for over a decade.

Their research suggests that since January 2013, Booking.com has stopped hotels from offering cheaper prices on their own websites or through rival booking platforms. This kind of restriction – known as a price parity clause – limits competition and could mean you paid more than you should have.

Lawyers also believe Booking.com misleads travellers with fake discounts, incomplete prices and made-up scarcity.

While the case is being brought in the Netherlands, the impact could be far-reaching. If Booking.com is found liable, other platforms may face scrutiny and similar legal action could follow here at home. If a claim is launched in the UK, you could be entitled to compensation.
