In December 2024, news broke that Volkswagen experienced a data breach affecting approximately 800,000 electric vehicle (EV) owners worldwide. The leak included location data and other personal information. Precise location data was available for 460,000 vehicles. 

 The data was left largely unprotected and accessible for months in an Amazon cloud storage system.  

The affected models included:

  • Volkswagen: ID.3 and ID.4  
  • Audi: e-tron series models, such as the Q4 e-tron and e-tron GT 
  • SEAT: Electric models, including the Mii Electric 
  • Škoda: Enyaq iV
