You may have heard about the growing legal action against Jaguar Land Rover over alleged defects in diesel particulate filters. This issue, which impacts various models manufactured from 2017 onwards, has already led to over 42,000 claims being filed.
Now, the courts have approved a Group Litigation Order (GLO) to streamline these claims into one collective action. This is a significant milestone for affected owners, offering a clearer path toward compensation.

What is the Jaguar Land Rover claim about?
Jaguar Land Rover is accused of selling cars with defective diesel particulate filter (DPF) systems.

Lawyers claim that the DPF systems in certain Jaguar Land Rover models experienced excessive clogging and reliability issues. They allege these issues led to engine performance problems, including:

- Engine damage: Faulty DPFs often led to damage or malfunction in the vehicle’s engine, requiring costly repairs.

Jaguar Land Rover offered software updates and warranty extensions to rectify the issues. However, for many drivers, it was too little, too late. People who bought affected Jaguar Land Rover diesel-powered vehicles manufactured between 2009 and 2020 may have experienced excessive maintenance costs and increased risks to their safety. The affected cars were also likely to be worth less than drivers paid for them.
What is the significance of the GLO?
A GLO is a court order that consolidates similar claims into a single legal action. A court must approve a GLO before a group action can proceed- which has now happened in the Jaguar Land Rover case.
